As a Writer, Should You be on TikTok?

I discovered TikTok almost a year ago. The lip-syncing and cute dances were funny. I’d look up and realize I’d lost an hour watching silly clips. 

Could I see myself as a writer on TikTok? No way. The translation from writing to video didn’t make sense. What would I be selling? 

Lately, I’ve been reconsidering that decision.

When Tara Blair Ball made an initial leap onto the TikTok platform and garnered rapid success, I was intrigued. 

This past week, Ashley and I interviewed Tara about that decision. She shared how she is finding a niche in the self-help/educational market on the platform. 

Her growth has been fast. Each day she posts a minimum of two short videos, between 15 and 60 seconds long. Most of them address relationship issues, advice, and tips. In less than one month, her audience has grown to over 10,000 followers, meeting the necessary threshold to monetize the account. 

Should you be on TikTok? Maybe! 

It is definitely worth a look. Up to now, it’s been a younger social media platform, but there is enormous growth potential to brand yourself.
